New Dorm for me

UPON WAKING UP, I saw from a Yakal friend Kuya Enzo's facebook account  that I will no longer be staying at my first dorm in UP Diliman, the Yakal Residence Hall. I'm gonna miss all my 'good' memories there. But I am also happy for I will leave all my bad memories inside that dormitory behind. I will miss the clean comfort rooms of Yakal. The noisy people, and even the lady guard who secretly sleeps at night with her lipsticks on!

IPIL RESIDENCE HALL. I was happy at first for I knew that there will only be two occupants per room there which means less people to interact with or to know. I am not that so happy because my company for a year will be a graduate student. That might make me so uncomfortable for I know how it feels like to be with someone not your age. Well, I haven't met my roommate yet so I still do not know his age. The next thought that I concluded was that the Lord might have transferred me there because He wants me to be much closer to Him and to the Library making me focus more on church and on academics.

The following photos are from Kuya Enzo's FB. (Super thanks kuya Enzo!)

I am 73rd. Does that mean I am in room 73?

Why does OSH transfer students from one dorm to another?

When can we check-in in our dormitory?

YOU GUYS SHOULD STOP SMOKING!

Planned

This morning, I immediately computed how much my tuition and all my expenses will be for the upcoming enrollment for the first semester in the school year 2010-2011. Then I also made a draft of all the subjects that I will take in my entire duration in UP Diliman's program, BA in Broadcast Communication.

If I did take summer classes last summer, my load will be better but considering that I love my dad I did not take it. I thought it will be just fine.

Now I already know how many units that I will take in the succeeding semesters. I just hope I can follow them.

Firsts

It was my first time to go to ABS-CBN Dagupan station by riding on a jeepney. And man, it was good but it was really really hot!

It was also first for me to be out-of-myself mode while on air, literally not on my consciousness that lead to many mistakes on-air. I am thankful that Sir Kiko was there to catch me on my miseries. I even ate my words and messed the whole article.

It was also my first time to be scolded in the radio station, by this old man.

This day is not for me.

INC experience

Yesterday at around 6 in the evening dad told me that the Iglesia Ni Cristo invited him and all of the line-up who were chosen by the church as their bet in May 2010 elections in our town, so he asked me to come with him and with my cousins Miko and Charmaine.

I texted my two best friends who are INC members. Floyd and Jayvee. I asked them what to expect in that event, and Floyd replied that it's just a bible study. I asked him what to wear and he said polo, slux pants, and leather shoes. So those were the things that I wore.

We went in the newly-built church located at Nibaliw, Mangaldan. I feel astonished as I entered the church. Everything new, even the people who assist the guests were all in white long sleeves and in baro at saya or terno. It's so formal.

It was so holy inside. We entered five minutes to seven in the evening. We waited for 15 minutes and then the choir started to sing. It was so holy until the pastor spoke with a big voice that I thought can only be heard on AM radios.

They called the event, "Pamamahayag."  At first I already know that we were asked to attend the event because they wanted us to invite in their religion. The pastor gave the message directly, though at first you already know that he is pertaining you to transfer from your religion to theirs.

I cannot say any negative things about that religion because you cannot see any negative practice that they have. I cannot help but to compare my religion which is the Roman Catholic church to them. I told my dad about their rituals, it was kind of boring for me. But dad said that they what we attended was sort of an invitation program and we we were not shown their ritual of a normal church day.

My dad said that it is nice to listen at their teachings. He added that people in that church are low-profile and they are equally treated. That was also what I observed from yesterday's visit to INC.

It was my first time to see how INC conducts their ritual/ teachings and it was great! I am hoping to attend to their church again. Though of course, not leaving RC behind.

1st Semester 2010-2011 Enlisted and Desired Classes

If you are my classmate, give me a message here! :)

Acoustic Night

I am now watching acoustic song videos on Youtube.
It helps me relieve from this soft anger and sadness that I am feeling right now.

WET NIGHT

I do not know if I would be happy about last night's heavy rain and brownout. Ace, Floyd and Danielle were here and when they were playing Pusoy Dos and I was fixing my CRS, when suddenly the lights went off. Yes, there was a brown out.

The heavy rain poured earlier last night when my batch mates were here at home to make Tambay after our super-duper-fun batch reunion. Making us eat our dinner inside the house, as opposed to the original plan to eat it outside where we can have a cool and fresh air.

New sched for Radio Programs

Since it's going to be our second week on the radio, we will reshuffle our schedules.

I'm gonna be on the same day but different time slot.

3 PM to 5 PM that is with DJ Nathalie De Coco.

I am so excited!

Classes in UP Diliman, moved

I was assuming it was true since my friend Reinalyn texted me that she saw from inquirer.net that the classes in UP Diliman was moved from June 9 to June 16.

I immediately checked the website and search "UP Diliman opening of classes" on the Google search engine at the same website.

I was happy for it was really moved on June 16 since I only read the headline of the news story.

MANILA, Philippines -- The University of the Philippines in Diliman has postponed the opening of its classes by a week following an advisory from the Commission on Higher Education to delay the opening of classes to June 15.
In a phone interview, Cristina Hidalgo, vice president for public affairs, confirmed that the opening of classes in the Diliman campus has been moved to June 16 from its original June 9 date.
“We are following the CHED directive postponing classes by a week and all chancellors have been informed,” she said.
Hidalgo said Diliman chancellor Sergio Cao made the announcement on Saturday.
“UPD start of classes moved to June 16 in view of extension of registration, and the Department of Health Advisory on A(H1N1). Adjustment in academic calendar to follow,” said a text message on the U.P. Diliman website.
The freshman assembly, Hidalgo added, has been postponed indefinitely. (SOURCE)

Then Reinalyn texted again saying that is is not moved. She did not state the reason. So I checked the date when the article was published. I felt betrayed by the information and my smile turned into not-so-fun smirk.

The article was dated JUNE 6, 2009 .

Sleep over

Okay so I am excited for that mini-mini reunion of JAFA later tonight.
Imagine us doing this after two years in college.
It is just a small circle of friends though.
Some of the closests and best-ests.

What ifs

Why did I look at the list of successful shieftees/transferees at that college's website.
It made me so envious looking at one of the names there.
I know her, she is not your typical girl in my place.
Now, it made me think, what if I also applied to shift in that college since my parents wanted me to take a business course.

What if I applied and got accepted to CBA: Aldrin will be..
     - 2nd year standing.
     - BA BroadComm will not be my course anymore, definitely.
     - I still need to work for and process my papers, making it hard for me to bid goodbye to CMC, since if I
applied without telling them beforehand that I shifted in that college.
     - I will be facing heavy Math subjects including 17 and 100, the only math courses in CBA, not including
        Stat 100.
     - My parents will be happy since that is their "real dream" for me, to graduate with a business degree.
     - I will graduate NOT ON TIME, since I will be back to sophomore standing.

What if I did apply and not accepted:
     - If CMC found it out, I will be NON-MAJOR. Disqualify me to graduate with honors.
     - My parents would be really disappointed and be upset with me.
     - I will have a blurry future? I do not think so though.
     - Some may laugh at me, judging me as a LOSER and all.
     - I will really be a bullshit.

So, since I am an incoming junior BA Broadcast Communication student, what will happen to me for the next school year?

Why is it hard for me to be contented on what I already have?

5 Glasses of Beer...

   ...are NOT enough!

I did enjoy my afternoon and my evening.

Thanks brads.

Thanks DEMOLAY!

Zero hour of sleep

I watched a very interesting film on the internet that is why
it took me long to download it.
It was worth it. The last time I did not sleep was
because of a Korean drama series way back high school days
before going to college, now a Singaporean film.

Now, I am experiencing a head ache and a little eye ache.

Now I'm gonna have my breakfast, then try to have a sleep.

"To all the Loves that bring us to Life."

This is such a wonderful film.
I wouldn't mind not sleeping because of such masterpiece.
No one can match how I am grateful now that I have seen it.
It maybe frustrating to know that it was a sad end, but
it have had a great beginning.
It shows how powerful LOVE can be,

and how miserable one can be
     when it's all gone.

Jejemon Song

This song is dedicated to all JEJEMONS! haha.

For acknowledgement sa aking source, ask me personally kasi the source does not want his name to published. na intriga ka no? clue: gwapo

Answer: Jayvee Linatoc! :)

Sleepless night

I slept for several hours but not for long since my besty is here, we have talked for quite long. I miss moments like this, the last time we have talked like that was during high school! Damn, I miss JAFA!

JAFA is an acronmy for the four of us, Jayveem Alison, Floyd, and me, Aldrin. Though Jayvee was the only one who is here now. I shouldn't post that, someone might read that and cause Jayvee a lot of triuble.

Oooops..sorry Jayvee! ;)

Anyway, I still have a program later at 11 AM to 1 in the afternoon with DJ Macky. And I hope I get my good voice back. LOL

Valedictorian proposes on Graduation Day, awesome!

These two nerds are totally awesome!

The valedictorian of New Jersey's Centenary College Emily Hawley proposed to her boyfriend Josh Walker during their graduation!

All I this time I thought rallying is the only gimmick that you can do on that momentous event just to be noticed, like some UP Diliman students did on 2008 Graduation Ceremonies wherein they rallied.

Back to the nerd couple. Emily and Josh were also competing for the top honor which is the valedictorian but according to Josh he got an A minus so he was not able to go further. So that gives Emily an edge over her boyfriend.

I think this couple will have awesome nerd kids.

Anyway, HERE is the video interview from Yahoo News.

Sirang Plaka

Plaka sana’y uminit, mag-apoy at maging abo

Tuesday Tambayan with DJ Kiko

First of all I would like to thank all the listeners of our program, MOR Tambayan!

It was indeed another great radio experience! Especially DJ-ing with Bespren Kiko. I came at the radio booth around 10:15 in the morning, 45 minutes early before program. DJ Macky was on board then on her program Musikang Ok sa Radyo. I immediately asked about the WiFi connection at the station and she said that there is a connection. So I searched and luckily, i found it. I asked Sir Ralph of the Gandang Umaga Kapamilya show, for the password. And he gave it.

I went at my FB account and posted on my wall. I also connected my UStream account for some listeners to see us, but sadly the listeners didn't go to my link.

As I said before on-air last Saturday during my first on-air experience at MOR when DJ Macky asked me, on what I can contribute or offer to the listeners of MOR, I answered that I will tighten the connection between the listeners and the DJs through internet social networking sites. This is because I know a lot of the audience have an FB account so why not go in that sphere where audience interact, too.

So to the listeners who are reading this posts and to all, I promise you that I, student DJ Aldrin will contribute something on MOR before I leave the station. Awww, I think that's dramatic, but I am sincere on that.

FOOT SPA: A form of relaxation

As I woke up this afternoon going six in the evening, I saw my mom being served for a spa, with Tita Linda giving her one of her feet a good service.

I told Tita Linda that I also want a foot spa since I have not given attention to my feet during the campaign period for my dad. She also noticed it that the last time was way long before and my feet need some pampering and relaxation.

I enjoyed soaking my foot on this machine.

This is Tita Linda, as she tickles or as she massages my foot. It is indeed very tickling!

With my cousins Jamille and April as we pose for a shoot. Haha

Dorm results are out

I am super happy for I have been accepted at a dormitory inside the campus, I just do not know yet what dorm.
Super thanks to Mark Gabriel Vicencio for the information. I hope the results for your application will be released soon.

PBB on my laptop

Finally! This is my first time to watch this season's PBB. Jologs? Naaa. Television through this program can show how real teenagers are nowadays. A way to know your fellow teenagers, right?

Thanks to UStream! I can get to watch this show on my laptop and I will not bother to move the TV from the common room of this floor to our bedroom. Anyway, I am sharing my bed with my sister because she's afraid in her own room.

And we are watching it together. Another bonding moment with her.

New App on my blog site

For me to know if this blog site stinks or not, I put a new application, it's the COUNTER! Obviously.

I did not think about this stuff when I made this site, poor me.

Anyway, I am hoping that the number will grow bigger.

Baguio here I come

Early last night my sister confirmed about our plan on going to Baguio City, since  really I missed that pine city, I have to reschedule my plans for today.

I am blogging not minding the fact that my dad, my mom, and my sister are preparing for the trip, while I haven't taken a bath yet. Haha

So there, I'm gonna take pictures of out trip.

Geee, I miss Baguio!

GTG, need to take a bath first.

Magic on my Laptop

I feel great listening to Magic 89.9 on my laptop!

It was like forever since I wasn't able to hear them over my laptop, so this afternoon while surfing their website, I was lucky to click "listen On-Air" button because finally! I heard it on-air on my laptop!

I am excited to hear my favorite programs again!

I did enjoy my Saturday (05-15-10)

MAY 15, 2010 SATURDAY

FIRST LONG ON-AIR EXPERIENCE.
With DJ Macky during our 11-1 program Saturday edition of Tambayan.
It was super cool especially when some of the callers get your number, it was so flattery!
Super thanks to the people who listened and who called! I love you guys!

SEVEN-ELEVEN TAMBAY WITH DANE.
So Dane was supposed to go at the station but didn't make it because of some school stuff.
She just waited me at the Seven-Eleven junction.
And then we ate hotdog sandwich as our lunch, taghirap kami!

IRONMAN 2.
So Dane wanted to watch the local film 'Here Cmes the Bride,' but then I convinced her to just watch Ironman 2.
I imagined how our friend Reinalyn would react if she's with us, and how she'd convince us to watch IM2, too.
I think some of the Filipino films are "jologs."

MINI-MINI REUNION.
Yes, since we just three from our batch, we just considered it as mini (doubled) reunion.
Melody, who's hiding with a fan, a batchmate from Anolid, and Myra, who is busy texting.
I super miss Melody, she got scared with my smile.
(What's with my super nakakamiss na smile, Melody?) :))

DEMOLAY NIGHT.
Not really, it was just a little post-party for Bro JC, Jejo.
Brad Jomart, Adrian, and Kim, texted me that they are there.
So I took the opportunity to be with them, again.
Since I haven't showed up for months.
Looking for a San Mig Light is difficult, even at the Mercury Drug
where I thought I'd find some, was not available there.
Thanks to Jennifer, a batchmate, for accompanying me at Tebag where I found a store.

EMCEE.
I went straight ahead at the Awarding Ceremony at Barangay Guiguilonen where I was invited to host the event.
I wasn't prepared to give an inspirational message on behalf of my father,
though I think the message was great (thanks to my previous speaking engagements.)
Went home at past twelve. I was not able to go with SK friends at Coffee repub, for I was really sleepy then.
Anyway, basketball players there have looks, unlike some barangays.
Girls in Guiguilonen, are HOT!

I heard it

Upon waking up this morning, I immediately switched on the radio, but I was not so lucky to listen at MOR for the speakers were wireless, so I still need to look for some wire. We used those speakers during the campaign and I don't know what happened that the wires were lost.

Anyway, so there, it was the third piece that I heard on MOR. The PSA that I conceptualized for us Student DJs, where Ma'am/DJ Macky was the one who wrote the spiels.

I feel so overwhelmed that the PSA I conceptualized went on air! I am so happy!

Anyway, I want you to hear it, too. So stay tuned in on 94.3 MOR Dagupan.

Little Lord Gaga

This is Greyson Michael Chance.  The one who is said to be the "Little Lord Gaga."

I appreciated his Paparazzi piece but this "Broken Heart" masterpiece by him is much more impressive and is so good!

The lyrics are just great! The message is there, clearly understandable by the audience.

I so like this kid, he is so talented!

Anyway, I just noticed him this morning as I read Magic's Grace Lee's tweet about him.

First document entry in my laptop

Written on June 24, 2009 for BC 102.

‘Wag Bibitiw sa Maguindanao 57

The year 2009 has been the worst year for media practioners particularly in the Philippines, so far. This is because of what have had happened in Maguindanao where journalists and civilians were murdered rudely and inhumanely.

On December 4, 2009, twelve days after the worst scenario in the history of Journalism in all human history occurred, the University of the Philippines’ College of Mass Communication conducted a program where different speakers from different media groups converged and discussed why the gruesome massacre occurred and also the current situation of the case.

Former CMC Dean Luis V. Teodoro, the chairman of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Attorney Leila M. de Lima, the director of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) Ms. Rowena Paraan, the station manager of UNTV Mr. Jay Sonza, the legal counsellor of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) Attorney Rejie Jularbal, and a representative from the Philippine Collegian were the one who spoke and gave their insights.

The program entitled “’Wag bibitiw sa Maguindanao 57” was held at the CMC Auditorium and was aired live on the radio at DZUP 1602 on December 4.

Prof. Teodoro said that the country is on its way to being a failed state status which is ‘self-inflicted by its very rulers.’ He also predicted that most of the killers will literally get away with murder despite the declaration of state of emergency in Maguindanao.

Atty. de Lima agrees on what Prof. Teodoro predicts and that ‘victims may not get justice.’ She added that there have been previous killings done by the same perpetrators and there are more mass graves in different fields in the area. According to her, the CHR is having difficulty obtaining a backhoe for digging since they cannot borrow nor rent to private individuals in Ampatuan so they will just borrow from the province of Sultan Kudarat where relatives of Buluan Vice Mayor Esmael Mangudadatu serves. She assured everyone that the CHR is doing its duties to deliver justice to the victims.

Ms. Paraan said that the 57 victims in the massacre is just the minimum number because the name of the drivers of the media vehicles and even camera men who is included in the convoy is not included in the attendance sheet bearing only the reporters’ names. She added that the sheet was obtained by the NUJP. She told about the story of Bong Reblando, a reporter of Manila Bulletin, and his wife’s stories. She said that Bong has been a reporter for 15 years and only this year when he was regularized before the gruesome day occurred. And the day when the wife identified his body is the same date as their 35th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Jay Sonza, who is raised in the ARMM, said that the Ampatuans are not really that famous dring his time there. It was the Mangudadatus who reign in the political arena in that area. According to him, the Ampatuans became just in 2001- same as Gloria Macapagal Arroyo came into power and assumed the presidential post.

I was not able to finish the program because I still have a class during the talk but even if was not able to hear the other speakers, I can still say that I heard a lot of information that I haven’t read in newspapers, not seen on the television and not heard over the radio.

I am really on burning with desire, upon hearing the talks of various speakers, to continue serving the people despite life-threatening scenario of the press in the country where the culture of impunity prevails.

What touched me the most was the story of Ms. Paraan during her interview with Mr. Reblando’s wife that when she was asked by the wife “Bakit kayo Masaya na media kayo?” She couldn’t answer. And when she turned the question to the wife, on why her husband is happy on being on media, her answer was, “Kasi minsan may natutulungan siya ‘pag may lumalapit sa kanya. At masayang-masaya siya ‘pag mayroon s’yang scoop.”

It is obvious that these journalist-victims knew that their life was at risk from the very start, but telling the people about a challenge of this Mangudadatu against the unchallenged and undefeated Ampatuan is their duty and their responsibility to the people.

As I write this article, it has been 15 days now since the barbaric killings of 57 civilian people, yet the government keeps on saying that justice is on the way which I oppose to believe. This government keeps on fooling the Filipino people, but we are still here- the media practitioners and students to keep track on every move the silly ruler. We can assure that we will not forget what have these 57 people suffered and we will keep on shouting for justice ‘til they hear us.

May justice be served to these victims, now!

THEORY AS A LENS TO INFORM A STUDY

THE THEORY AS A LENS TO INFORM A STUDY
Reaction to the Colloquium of Attorney Victor Avecilla

The study of Attorney Victor Avecilla’s colloquium revolves on the topic, “Constitutional Prohibition against Alien Ownership and Management of Mass Media in the Philippines.”

Atty. Avecilla used “The Philippine Collegian,” the official student publication of the University of the Philippines Diliman as a case study when in 1994 an alien or a student who has a dual citizenship which is Filipino- American, became an editor-in-chief of the said mass medium. This is a great offense to the constitution which serves as “the highest law of the land.” It is said in the Article XVI, Section 11 of the 1987 Constitution that, “The ownership and management of mass media shall be limited to citizens of the Philippines, or to corporations, cooperatives or associations, wholly-owned and managed by such citizens.”

According to the 1987 Philippine Constitution, mass media is a means of communication like the print media which includes the newspapers, popular magazines, and periodicals; radio, television, and movies, which reaches and influences a large size of population. Atty. Avecilla pointed out that owning mass media is very critical for the power of it is encompassing for it dictate to us what is what and where is where and even why is why. Therefore if foreigners will own and manage it, our culture might be affected by that alien’s culture.

Political economy tackles the commodification of mass media. This presents that a mass media which should be free for everyone’s access, is inaccessible unless you pay for it. Money or the role of economics play a vital role in this theory for you won’t be informed if you won’t pay. This theory informs the study in such a way that politics also plays a major role in a mass medium that the ownership and the management of it is restricted to only Filipinos.

The colloquium topic which is the restriction of ownership and management of mass media to Filipinos only, using the lens of a political economy theory, is also vital. For if the mass medium commodity is owned and controlled by an alien, then it will greatly influence our perspective for he can manipulate the texts and monopolize the angle of stories, and jeopardize the medium.

Atty. Avecilla used Jose P. Laurel’s quotation, “No one can love Filipinos better than Filipinos themselves.” This is true because foreigners would really not mind about our condition and what they mind most is on how to gain profit out of these media and to monopolize it totally.  The quotation explains totally the reason why aliens should be banned on owning and managing mass media in the Philippines.#
