Media exploitation

Mabuhay tayo!

"There will be an answer..."

Students Voices on the Web to the World

I first saw this in my BC 148 class last semester. And it still amazes me seeing this video- not because of aesthetics or anything but because of the message that are in here.

Doomed Wednesday

So I am here inside my room. Revamping my final concept paper for my audience research class. Oh, Lady Gaga why are you so hard to study on? HAHA

Anyway, I still got a final examination for my media law class under my so-urghhhh-I-do-not-know-how-to-describe professor. Now that's not libelous. HAHA

Alright, I need to be back and write, and write. Out of five papers due today, I am only done with two major papers which is 5% each in my final grade so those papers make 10 % of my final grade.

And this oh-so-nakakabaliw-na-concept paper is worth 30% of my final grade. Damn it!

Now I need to stop ranting and must finish these papers. I have not reviewed for my finals yet! Yes, I am doomed!

Finals Week

Got 5 papers due tomorrow. And also a final exam tomorrow! Oh Wednesday. I hope I can finish you victoriously.

Disappointed

You might wanna check my post prior to this.

I just saw the AVP presentations of Ipil Residence Hall and it made me sad knowing that I didn't see my name therein as a College Scholar. I again checked and recomputed my GWA for the last semester to verify it, and yes, I still got an average in the range for College Scholars. I do not know how the committee of Ipil Awarding Ceremonies manged to get the list of awardees, but I just hope they confirm everything first because it's a disappointment to some who deserve a 3-second fame in that AVP. Haha. But, seriously.

I hope Ipilistas who are in-charge for this event managed to verify the records of every dormer. Anyway, I am willing to return the medal if need be. I feel so disappointed already and it feels like I am taking away an award that is not mine.

My First UP Medallion

The Ipil Residence Hall acknowledged the University and College Scholars tonight. I was not able to attend due to a meeting. Upon arriving home at the dormitory, the president of the Association of Ipil Residents Kuya Andre gave me a medallion for being a College Scholar last semester.

Thanks Ipil! This is my first medallion in UP!

122: Antolohiya ng mga Teleplay

I bought a 122 anthology this afternoon. It feels good to read such a great book! So worth it! Congratulations to BC 122 class of Professor Eli Guieb III! Ivy Claudio, Duncel Redulla, Rod Marmol, Kiarra Marie Vallido, at Habs Habon! Guys, I really recommend the book. Also, this book makes me more proud of being from the UP College of Mass Communication's  partment of Broadcasting.
Book cover and layout by Mark Rodel Marmol.

U-Ave and I hAVE the coolest groupmates

Ateneo and UP Law Curricula

According to the Inquirer online, the Ateneo schools topped the 2010 Bar Examination with five bar passers who belong  to the top 10 examinees, one of which is from the Ateneo de Davao University and four of which are from the Ateneo de Manila University's College of Law. Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines College of Law bagged four topnotchers.

I believe that the Ateneo de Manila University is really doing good in the Bar Examination for the past years. I also think that their curriculum wherein a certain semester in their fourth year is devoted in reviewing some parts of the bar.

This aspect of the curriculum for the Juris Doctor program offered by the Ateneo College of Law is not present in UP Law's curricula for the morning and evening classes. If UP Law has this review program in their curricula and if the college is more serious about the bar exam, then I believe that UP Law will also or if not, be able to produce more bar topnotchers than the Ateneo Law.

I respect that these two legal institution have their own forte and specialization, however, people especially those who do not know the content of the curricula of these two schools will primarily judge them according to the number of the topnotchers that they have produced. And that I, being an aspiring law student in the future, I may basically be influenced  by this type of comparison and irrationality that people usually do to judge a certain law student.

Blessed Sunday

This morning as I attended the 10 AM mass, I felt emotionally happy and contented. It was like I can breathe freely without minding anything. It was like God is talking to me saying that I ca surpass everything, and just hold Him tight, and never to let go. I am so inspired to do great and offer to Him every moment and every sacrifice that I do.

Have a blessed Sunday, too!

Dinner at Rodics with Julius and Tin Babao

While Abby, Joanna and I were having a conversation at Rodics while also having dinner, Julius and Tin Babao sat beside us on the same table where we are having our dinner! At first we didn't notice that they are the couple because the person who sat beside me is an old woman and that she looked irritated with my bag on the table and I put it there as if it was block in the middle of the table. So Abby looked at me as if saying to remove it to give respect to the old woman. As I remove the bag, a woman who presented herself as a professor of the Film Institute approached Tin and asked for her autograph and photo with her. And from that instance, I told Abby that she is a alumna of the UP College of Mass Communication's Film Program and said that I wanted to invite her for our Broadcast Communication Week but she is not from the Broadcast Department. Then a man seemed to look at me as I said those words to Abby. I never thought that it was her husband Julius. Abby and I just finished eating our meal while Joanna waited for her order- she said she's still busy doing school work. So there, we never even said 'hello' to them. I immediately told my friends about it over my phone. This is one crazy yet cool night!

IT RAINED CATS AND DOGS: My first ten hours at P.A.W.S.

The statue located infront of the office of PAWS.

When our professor in CWTS-2 Dr. Arminda Santiago announced in class that our 20-hour immersion will be at the Philippine Animal Welfare Society, I doubted my capacity to handle dogs and cats. I was a dog-lover before but when my favourite dog died five years ago, I never had a dog to love so I just ignore some canine in our house, while cats keep on scarring me with their paws so I never appreciated them.

Ma'am Anna of PAWS

During the orientation held on February 7, Ma’am Anna’s statement “Walang asong gala, kung walang may aring pabaya,” really got my attention. It is indeed true, that no dogs and cats will be in the streets especially here in UP Diliman campus, if we are just responsible pet owners. And she said that Spay and Neuter is one of the solutions that can properly manage the increasing number of pets.

Ma'am Anna as she shows us around PAWS Rehabilitation Center

I asked her during the orientation about the stand of PAWS to animals used in laboratory for scientific experiments, she answered that they are not against it as long as the 3 Rs are observed: Reduce, Replace, and Refine. She said that if you are going to use animals for experimentation, you are reducing the number of animals, therefore you need to replace it, and to refine it. Just like when cutting trees in forests, to properly keep the balance in the nature you need to replace the ones that you cut. Maybe, it’s just a cycle of life which is observed not only in tresst in the forests, but also to animals.

This is Lala as she gets Kina from the kennel.

In PAWS, I learned so much about dogs and cats- from proper way to introduce yourself to them, to the proper way to bathe these pets. I never imagined there is such a way and manner to introduce yourself to your pets! It’s a special case since our Ma’am Armi taught me how to please cats, while a senior volunteer in PAWS named Lala taught me how to introduce myself to a dog and how to properly bathe it.

The proper way to bathe a dog: Do not wet its head first.

The afternoon right after the orientation, I came back. My first task in PAWS is bathing Kina- a dog who just underwent spay, thanks to Lala for the proper guidance on how to bathe Kina! After bathing her, I took her for a walk. She is like any other dog who likes running and playing around, but her condition keeps her some sort of uncomfortable so after 45 minutes of walking with her, I brought her back to her cage.

After my very first task with Kina, I just opted to clean the garden in front of the place where the names of the dogs and cats who passed away are located. I thought that by doing so will make these pets happy, even in such a very simple way. And after that tiring task, I went to the cattery and saw the food bowls in the washing area, so I just grabbed the opportunity to wash those up.

This part of the PAWS Rehabilitation Center touches me most. Love is beyond life.

I was requested by the partner of Ma’’am Anna who is an alumna of the UP Film Institute, to scoop some soaps. I did it and I was able to scoop a sack of soaps in just one sitting! Because of PAWS, I am learning so much about myself, even this skill which I also consider as a talent, perhaps.

The second day that I visited PAWS, another senior volunteer helped me out in bathing two dogs! I am thankful to Joneca for guiding me again in bathing Boogie and Miles. These two dogs are the most energetic dogs that I have ever seen, except for my best dog friend, Chubby. After bathing the two dogs, I played around with the other dogs but I was warned that a certain dog bites so I better keep away from it. I got scared so I just transferred but Ma’am Anna requested me to do something.

I never thought that I will literally get a headache after doing the task given by Ma’am Anna. She asked me to count cats inside the cattery and kittenery according to their colors. These cats are playful and that it has given me headache counting them. On my first try, Ma’am Anna said that she was disappointed because it was far from her record. I got frustrated so I really observed and counted the cats again. On my second try, Ma’am Anna said that it’s almost correct however her records are also questionable so she can’t really decide if I get the numbers right. So far, that’s the most difficult task that I have ever had.

I arrived at PAWS minutes before 10 in the morning and that made me happy that I will finally complete my first ten hours and will be able to see my favourite PAWS pets again. The last hour of my first ten hours was more on cleaning and doing some errands posted on the to-do list. I cleaned the back of the Multi-Purpose Hall, the cattery, and also the enormous amphitheatre. I got so sweaty on these tasks but it’s all worth it because these pets deserve a clean surrounding. It’s just saddening to know that Ma’am Anna who served as the administrator who checks me, is absent on the day I finished my first ten hours of internship at PAWS, so I just asked the senior volunteer Kuya John to sign my immersion form.

I will forever be indebted to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society and to my CWTS-2 class for instilling in me and for cultivating the love that I used to have for these wonderful pets. I will take then lessons I learned to our pets at home. I just wish my best dog friend Chubby is still alive so that I will share to him these wonderful learnings I just acquired at PAWS. To Chubby, this is for you buddy, I miss you!

Copyrighted Oble

I just found out from my New Media Class through my classmate Jervis that the UP Oblation is now copyrighted by the Quezon Hall Administration. I do not know when this started but even my classmate Jamay said that their sorority  was asked to pay 12,500 pesos for the Oblation they used in their Powercards and that they were not allow to make derivatives from the oblation.

Maybe it's the answer of the UP Administration to protect the identity of the University from many shirt makers that use the famous icon and also to protect it from grim marketing strategies by other people outside the University;  however, I find it ironic because the oblation per se is an icon of freedom but how come students can't even take photos with the famous UP icon?!

Best and Birthday

After our consultation this afternoon with our professor in BC 181 for the colloquium next week, Sir Choy said that so far we are the best presenters in his class. It was also in that instant that I learned that my partner will be celebrating her birthday today! So here's for my best partner, Wang! Happy happy birthday. Super thanks to all the patience and sacrifice you had for this paper and presentation. Let's strive to maintain our being the best. Let us offer this to God! Cheers!

Piece of Childhood

Print screen image of the closing bill board of the 62nd episode.

I just finished watching for the nth time my favorite anime so far which is HunterXHunter. I like the story of friendship, of fidelity, of being strong, of being the best. It's all worth it, spedning hours in front of my laptop just to complete the primary episodes of HXH. I wanna watch the two sequels, too! Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio, thanks for the spirit! Now, I wanna be a hunter!

Procrastination at its best!

Pagbitaw

Orgasm of a dream

Pangarap kong maging isang magaling at dalubhasang Filipino.

Filipino will always sound beautiful.

Sandali. Matanong kita. Anong pangarap mo?

New chancellor of UP Diliman

I just read the tweet of the Philippine Collegian stating that the new UP Diliman chancellor is Dr. Cesar Coloma of the College of Science.

UP Diliman Selection for the next Chancellor

Today is the day when the five nominees will face the judgement from the stockholders of the University of the Philippines' flagship campus. I saw Sir Roland yesterday and wished him goodluck. I am for him because of the credentials and his administrative experiences. It's not only because he is our dean in CMC, but also because I believe he was able to upgrade the college. Now I am excited for the results. I hope sir Roland gets the post.

Buddy Date

Finally my buddy Joan and I have our buddy date already! I had fun. I discovered so much about my buds. She's not your ordinary college freshman in the School of Economics. She's a band member, a vocalist at that. And she's so friendly and talkative, I guess, and I like our date!

We ate the isaw in front of the International Center, jogged at the acad oval, watched film at the tambayan and also cleaned the area, then we exchanged gifts! :)

There you go, as the best applicant last semester, I am confident that my biddy will also be the Best Applicant in Publicity Committee of UPCE this sem. She's really the BEST! Go buddy!
