This is my research interest, as of now. I know I will love this as long as I love the internet and the web.
I just talked with my professor in BC 148 (Interactive Broadcasting class which I took last semester) and Comm 150 (Internet and New Media Culture class which I am currently am taking this semester) Professor Data Canlas.
She introduced me to a lot of interesting ideas regarding the internet and the World Wide Web last semester in our BC 148 class, and for now, she still continuous to share her knowledge about the online media to class. Today, as our class ended, I got to talk to her one-to-one regarding her research interest which I am also interested in.Though in our conversation, I drew what differs my research topic from hers. She is into the convergence of the new media and the mobile phones and the social effects thereof; while my topic interest is on participative new media.
Even last semester in our BC 148, Ma'am Data inspired me to be involved actively in the cyberspace because it is not being studied on and the scholarly papers at the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication are mostly focused on the mainstream media. I learned from our conversation that researches on the internet are focused more on the commercial side of it. She mentioned famous individuals online such as the Internet Marketing Consultant Mr. Carlo Ople and the Blogger Ms. Janette Toral.
This interview is connected to my interview in Fulbright Global UGRAD Exchange Scholarship scheduled next week, on the first day of December! And I am so excited yet anxious about it so I am into researching more about the stuff that I needed to clarify- if any, regarding my dossier.
I am praying that I will be chosen as one of the grantees of this scholarship because I want to learn more and acquire a broad perspective regarding this body of knowledge which is I believe available at the United States of America and is only limited here in the Philippines with the reasons I mentioned above herein. I also wanted to share whatever knowledge that I will acquire in the scholarship program to the Filipino people and to the Philippine media.

Astro Mayabang
Ate Ivy Claudio and I went to EDSA Shangrila to watch the film of one of our classmates in BC 148, and to show our support to him. I saw and was start struck as what Ma'am Data would call it, to the stars whom I first saw in our class last semester. And now they were presented in the silver screen with some artists. Yes I saw the casts such as Aaron, Megan, Sweet, Marco, and Hermes.
The film was good. It was kind of disturbing for me specifically the scene wherein a gay, Mama Suk (Sweet) who pays for sexual pleasure, asked Astro (Aaron) to mimic a religious saint before they have sex.
Anyway, congratulations to Director Jason Paul Laxamana for a great Gala and Premiere Night! Guys, watch it,too.

Take it Off for UP Pep Aftershock
Our most awesome and pep-looking professor in my most fun-filled class, Ma'am Data, introduced a method wherein we can evaluate the 'Take It Off for UP Pep' campaign. According to her, this is used whenever a big amount of effort was given in a certain project or a campaign. Well, it did help us organize and reflect with our campaign. I though we will do a so-active class activity wherein large amount of physical movements are needed but I was wrong. We just needed a large amount of thinking and reflecting skills in the activity.
This activity made me realize that no matter how many efforts you have given, no matter how perfect your movement is for you, there will always be a lot of flaws that will come your way. And I cannot deny that a lot of shortcomings did take place during the actual campaign but the fact that some people participated in the campaign, made it a win-win for UP Pep and for our class to involve the UP community in the event. The activity was positive-centered so that balanced our emotions towards some shortcomings during the event.
Interactive, it was. Our class is interactive broadcasting.
KUNG FU GURU.
Ma'am Data as she explains the activity. She shows herein how she can defend the class from its haters. :)
NO ONE CAN STOP US.
The most awesome classmates and teammates. I only appreciated being in a team
in Broad Comm Prod class through this class.
FUN AND ONLY FUN. Go us!

This ruined my morning
:( So I read it as I went surfing at the UP Pep's Page in Facebook and read these messages that made me feel sad about our major project in BC 148.
Hans Ong: is the 'take off' gimmick officially endorsed by the up pep or is it
just a project of a class in up?
Carl Espinas: @hans ong: 'take off' isn't official. it's just a project
of a class in up. 'wear white. up fight' is the official gimmick of up pep.
Hans Ong: @carl espinas: thanks! i think it is baduy kasi. haha

Oh, well, you cannot please everyone. Only creative minds can think about that Take it Off campaign, right? Go BC 148!

Shoot for 'Take it Off for UP Pep'
The class was divided into two groups to shoot for the TAKE IT OFF FOR U.P. PEP campaign. It was after our class discussed on Thursday September 2, some major problems that might come our way in our project. My groupmates were Kyra and Margie and we were assigned at the KASAA. I did enjoy the shooting and even inviting some fellow students to cheer for the UP Pep Squad! I will upload the video as soon as Kuya em, a classmate, has done editing them.
It was so exhausting but the presence of my classmates and professor made the work so much fun and exciting! Imagine, we even shoot at the AS steps! WOW! It was my first time to perform there with the class, of course. After the shoot, we even did a campaign at the CAL tambayan and thanks to the UP Writers' Club for having a great video and cheer! They even did a choreography in their video. Thanks guys!
With my classmates Faith and Faye.
Thanks Ate Camille for the photo.

UAAP CDC tickets will be released on Sept 6
I am excited for this! I am planning to be at the gym on that day at 4AM or later around that time.
According to the article, starting September 6, Reyes said people can start buying tickets from the athletics and sports divisions in schools.
"...this year we want to release the tickets at the schools first for the students" -Edwin Reyes, head secretariat of the UAAP Season 73.
HERE IS THE LINK.
I am desperate for this. Thanks to my BC 148 class for approving my proposal for us to make this as our final project. At least I have a reason to watch it LIVE!

GANITO KASI YAN Dagupan Episode
So here is my baby!
Please do watch, comment, and share it with you friends.
This production did not just made me enjoy my stay in Dagupan City on my birthday, but this video also helped appreciate the art of editing! As a Broadcast major, some of my friends say that I should know how to edit productions, but I keep on answering that I am not that so patient so much thanks to this prod for making me so patient for days and nights! :)

PODCAST: Bringing lectures and seminars on cyberspace
We have a major production in my BC 148 or Interactive Broadcasting class and that is to make a video podcast on How to's but that I have not started yet. I know, my partner Ivy and I will air our production on the 19th yet I have not started it.
I may not have started doing the assigned podcast in class but I have started podcasting a lecture on the web! It was the lecture of Dr. Ed Portugal in our BA 101 class. To know the story about the lecture click here. If you wanna hear the entire playlist of the podcast click here. To check my podcast channel on podbean, click here.
Yesterday afternoon, while I got a chance to get out of my Comm 140 classroom to buy some snakcs, I saw Ma'am Data and asked her if she knows a free host for podcasts. She suggested Podcast Ally but when I checked it out, it was not really my type of thing so I googled for other free hosts. Then I found PodBean and I was interested on that site so I decided to make an account there where I can upload my podcasts.
I am pleased knowing that internet applications nowadays such as Podcasts and even RSS Feed, allow you to share your stuff on the cyberspace and makes it viral- reaching larger audience. I believe that it is one of the most significant tasks of the internet and that is to share what you know to contribute to others knowledge as well. It's a mutual relationship among producers and prod-users.
BC 148 does not only teach you the know-hows on the net but also teaches you the value of sharing and acknowledging the source. It's not that I am not for the productions it's just that I am not the production type of guy. As a matter of fact, I do not want to have production classes since I think it kills you. This class has a production but the type of prod that makes you enjoy it while doing it.
There you go, I have to end blogging now since I need to start doing the script of the podcast production since Ivy might get really even at me.

VIRAL-ity: On RSS Feed and Syndication
Finally I got to apply RSS on my sites!
I am happy having a class such as BC 148 or the Interactive Broadcasting especially having a professor who is really into these things on cyberspace. She introduces a lot of facts and things we can do on the internet and how to expand our horizons especially on the posts we make.
Now, one of the things we discussed, and I reported on this in fact, is on RSS Feed and Syndication.
It allows you to make your blogs, or podcasts viral on the internet. As Google Feed burner states:
"Feeds are a way for websites large and small to distribute their content well beyond just visitors using browsers. Feeds permit subscription to regular updates, delivered automatically via a web portal, news reader, or in some cases good old email. Feeds also make it possible for site content to be packaged into "widgets," "gadgets," mobile devices, and other bite-sized technologies that make it possible to display blogs, podcasts, and major news/sports/weather/whatever headlines just about anywhere."
One more point is that, since it allows you to make your ideas or posts viral, it can reach Yahoo News, if and only if it deserves to. I saw one time especially in the Yahoo Philippine News an article made by a student and I thought that it came from Yahoo per se but it is actually from a blog.
So here I am wondering what this RSS Feed may lead me into. Anyway, here is the feed of my blog. You might want to subscribe therein.
So guys, start adding RSS Feed on your blogs or podcasts, too! See you on the net!

Amazed
My professor in Interactive Broadcasting is currently at Malaysia and is attending a conference, and guess what, she will also be a speaker and she's going to present her paper there!
It is an international conference and a lot of intelligentsia on cybernetics will be there! I am just so proud of her!
For Ma'am Data Canlas, cheers!
ma'am!

Befriend and Work
Here is my final output in my Broadcast Communication 148 class. You know what's more interesting than doing this activity is the fact that you get to know another person and be able to befriend him or her.
I like kids that is why I wanted to highlight them through this photo. Especially now the number of kids that is on the street and doing the things that even their fragile bodies cannot do, they still push their limits just to earn money so that they can buy food for themselves.
I found this picture so interesting that I have written to the one says on Flickr, the owner.

But it turned out that the person I wrote to was not the one who owns the picture, he just took the photo but his boss was the one who I am supposed to write to first. Here's what he replied to me.
I sent a message to him saying that I badly need it as soon as possible since I need to show him the output after editing it. I am lucky enough to have this new friend that is so nice and was able to send the file I need without going through many stages before I can have the copy.
Here is the original photo that he sent me. It is available at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ramdiboy/4325378340/in/photostream/

Again, thanks Thomas Tham for this wonderful masterpiece that you have.
Here is what he sent me just by now. I already edited the pic, Thomas. Thanks again!

GREENY ME
I AM GREEN MINDED. Yes I am and I care for the environment. Maybe not as hardcore as some environment activists are but on my own little way, I can keep the fight for our mother nature. I was still young when I realized that I love planting trees and some plants in our garden and I promised that I would be a protector of the environment someday. I do not know any organization that keeps the fight as Greenpeace. Aside from the fact that they have scope internationally, Greenpeace has already made significant projects and launched movements all over the country. They also tackled some issues before when the sea disasters were prevalent.
I am thankful for this class for it does not only encourages us to be active online but also be socially active for some movements where we are of interest with. And as for me, this fight for the environment through this organization- Greenpeace, is just the start of something bigger for me. And it all started with a simple class activity in my BC 148 class.

Tsinelas (BC 148 video)
TSINELAS
by: ALDRIN SORIANO
The University of the Philippines is known for its academic freedom.
UP students and even professors can wear whatever they want to wear even slippers- one thing that most of the schools in the country does not allow.
Also, UP students are known for 'taking the road less traveled by' for they make their new way and they do not conform.

In a class right now
I am having my BC 148 or my Interactive Broadcasting class right now.
We have just finished shooting our first activity! And I am going to upload them later, or maybe after editing it.
My professor is so cool, well, aside from the fact that she is so pretty, (crush, crush!) and she got an awesome smile!
We are still thinking of our blog name, I mean the name of our class blog where we will upload our videos.

INTERACTIVE BROADCASTING
I am so amazed about my class this afternoon. It's about interactive broadcasting. Yes, it is a production class though not a studio-prod class. We'll do shoots outside the classroom, yeah! Now I am excited for that!
Anyway, the class deals on new media- the internet and the web! We were required to have our own youtube channels, which I already have. And also to have our blog sites. What made me more excited is on the challenge imposed by Prof. Data Canlas, wherein we should get into the mainstream media as the sem ends. Now, that's tough. We hope our project be aired on the mainstream news!!!
One more super cool thing about the class, Jason Laxamana is my classmate! Yes, the director in Youtube whom I adore because of his idealistic Kapampangan short films. Because of him I also wanted that our province will also have short films in our own language.
