Dad's second year in heaven

It still feels unreal that he is gone. Two years but the pain still lingers. Two years of his absence in our lives have made big impact and realizations- knowing genuine people who will be there for our family and for me is one.

Two years ago when our family decided to bring dad home after days of being in the ICU. It was a family decision after our doctors disclosed that his case was a very serious one and that an operation will not guarantee his survival.

It is still vivid in my memory when my sister Frelyn together with my wife Lyle and cousin April prayed over my dad inside his ICU room and told him that it was okay for him to rest, that we will be okay, and that we'll take care of each other.

It is so painful to see daddy be transported via ambulance with only an Ambu-bag as aeration. I still managed to drive for my mom and family despite their sob. When we went home, our relatives already prepared his bed. It was past three in the afternoon when dad left us.

My dad is the reason why I love being in public service. He supported me when I took my undergraduate course despite his and my dream of me being a medical doctor. He also supported me when I entered the media industry. He was proud of seeing his only son on TV.


Every year we commemorate this day by remembering his life and his life for others.

Earlier tonight we went to the cemetery together with the people he loved and who loved him back. He was a barangay captain for years in our community before becoming a municipal councilor. 

I can never equal his service nor him as a legislator, but I thank him for always inspiring and inculcating in me to love the people we serve unselfishly.

Mangaldan LGU welcomes its new doctor

Cool and brilliant. This is how I would describe Doc Larry, who happened to be our doctor when I was still a news reporter in ABS-CBN News Regional Network Group. It was during this time when I first met him as a doctor and introduced himself as a Mangaldanian, which made me very proud.

During the flag raising ceremony of the Local Government Unit of Mangaldan, Doc Larry was officially inducted by Honorable Mayor Bona Fe De Vera-Parayno. Doc Larry will replace the position of one of the best and most compassionate doctors I know Dr. Ophelia Rivera who is now the City Health Officer of Dagupan City.

During the Sangguniang Bayan session held yesterday, the members of SB got the opportunity to meet and ask some questions to Doc Larry.

Being in the office for the first three days, I asked him on what he thinks is the main concern he would like to address as the new health officer. He answered that he would like to address health care delivery system wherein he plans to go to various barangays health centers and conduct check-ups thereat. He also said that he plans to conduct inventory of medicines to check what are other medicines that could be added into the current medicines that we have in the Rural Health Unit.

As a youth and chairman of the Committee on Youth in the Sanggunian, I asked him on his plan in addressing some health issues concerning the youth sector in the municipality such as the increasing number of teenage pregnancy. Doc Larry said that he plans to address it through education, particularly on informing the youth on the effects of teenage pregnancy and even the bad side of abortion.

When Councilor Atty. Joseph Cera asked Doctor Sarito if the RHU offers some contraceptive pills, the good doctor answered that he have not conducted inventory yet on the supply of medicines available in the RHU.

I am definitely sure that the health of our kabaleyans is in good hands, especially that our chief local executive Mayor Bona is also a health professional. She is actually the leader who activated the 24-hour Birthing Clinic in our municipality and has improved the services of the RHU in her first term. Currently, the RHU Building is under renovation for various improvement and to facilitate more clients, more kabaleyans. That is why I am so honored to be working with visionary, competent, and compassionate leaders in our town.

There are more accomplishment in the health sector of our good mayor, and that deserves another blog entry here on this site. I am more than excited to be working with this good doctor, too!

Dad's in a better place now

He stayed the same way from the last time I saw him and from the last time we went to the mall together. He was strong and care-free.

The scenario started inside the mall. My mom and I together with my dad were doing our grocery together. As usual, he goes on his own picking various items while I push the grocery cart together with my mom. When mom asked about his whereabouts, I told her that he was buying various tools for his cars. He was wearing his usual shirt and shorts with rubber shoes.

GOING HOME. The second scene when I was driving my mom going home using a motorcyle while my dad decided to drive the van with our groceries. We were stocked in traffic so we decided to go back to dad and ride the van.

STAYING FOR GOOD. The next scene was inside a house I've never seen before. It was like a rest house near the beach. Dad was there. We were convincing him to go home with us. He refused. He said that he has already made his promise to stay in the said house. I told him that he was unfair. I told him he should also take care of his grandchildren the way he took care of my sister's children. He smiled. 

For the first time this year, I dreamt about daddy. He talked to me in that dream.

I woke up sobbing. I never expected that dad will be in my dream, more than a year after his death. 

If there is a message out of this dream that would be his assurance that he is in a better place now. He remains to be in my heart and will always be.

What's up

I received a private message on my Facebook page from a senior Communications student Kerzly yesterday. Kerzly, who is a resident of Barangay Salaan here in Mangaldan asked information about the groundbreaking ceremony of the Public Market facade which happened last Monday. She said that she needed it for her online journalism class. I referred the OIC-Market Supervisor Mr. Bong Rivera to her. 

Kerzly's message echoes a longing for writing to me. This made me miss my college days when we also get to write our blogs entries which made me create this blog. I took elective classes focused on online media under Dr. Data Canlas wherein we created the UP Cyber Nomads. 

As I browse this blog, I noticed that the last entry was posted two years ago. I was planning to create another site but I do not want my previous entries or memories here be deleted and wasted. So, with diligence I pray that I could be able to maintain this blog wherein I could share my stories and journey as a young legislator fuelled by passion and advocacies.

Kulturang Pinoy sa Pagkaing Pinoy

Mason promotes UP Subol Society's UPCAT Review Project

Dad Dennis Uy, former councilor in Pozurrubio, Pangasinan and who is currently the grand master of Freemasonry at Lodge 158 in Dagupan City, promoted UP Subol Society's review session on his Facebook wall a few minutes from now.

With dad Dennis' 4691 FB friends, I am hoping that there will be higher number of participants and attendees in the upcoming project. 

The event aims to help graduating high school students who will take the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) and also other college entrance exams to be prepared prior to taking the test. The review session will cover Mathematics, Language Proficiency, and Science- the three core areas in the UPCAT. 

UP Subol Society is the premier and only duly recognized organization of Pangasinenses in UP Dliman.

Miss Mangaldan 2011 Pageant soars high

I was taken aback by these photos upon seeing them this morning. I was at first amazed by how elegant-looking the stage was during the pageant. However, I was disappointed by the candidates upon seeing them during the launch of the Miss Mangaldan. The stage might looks o beautiful but the quality of the contestants chosen were not as good looking as the past candidates of the pageant. I even saw some ladies who already joined the pageant in 2009 and is still in this year's competition. I haven't read the Competition Guidelines yet so I really do not know the business of the organizers and the other candidates.

Anyway, I must congratulate Councilor Baby Abalos and other organizers for putting up a great show. Kuya Jojo must also be given merit for the stage design which I think he conceptualized, and of course for the photos used in this entry.

Congratulations to all the ladies. To our Miss Mangaldan 2011, Ms. Angelica Demandante, you do deserve the crown, just by judging your beauty, though I haven't watched the Question and Answer part of the competition.

The last Miss Mangaldan Pageant was held on 2009 which we watched live at the town plaza together with high school friends. And I was totally taken away by the productions and the stage design. Trully, Mangaldan soars high. I only hope that they did not over spend the budget too much. Ad the proper budgeting and auditing must be done as soon as possible for transparency purposes.

Response to Atty. Joseph's Open Letter to Mangaldan Mayor Romero

This is the link to the blog post and an Open Letter to Mayor Romero. I just saw this now. 


Hi Atty. Joseph, I also believe that these videoke stalls be relocated and must be banned totally within the premises of the public plaza. This isn't just about keeping the place pleasant to the eyes, it is not only about the noise pollution that these stalls produce, but also the reputation of our town is also at stake.

Weekends illness and Glee

I think I have an illness on weekends, yes, on Saturdays and Sundays! I do not know but I think I cannot study nor I cannot give priority on my academics on these days. I think I am just wasting my time here on campus on those days that is why going home on weekends excites me so much but I think that will only be every after two weeks, since I have Monday class and a Saturday class.  


I am going home every after two weeks since I have to meet with my brads because I have a BIG obligation with the organization and that's being the EIC of the Pangasinan Chapter Publication. I feel terrible for it is hard to communicate with my brads right now, I even do not know yet if we already have a publication nameplate. I hope this will turn just right since the dad masons and the Advisory Council have high expectations on me. Oh, talk about the pressure. 


All I did today was to..ahm, half of the day or majority of the hours taht I spent today went  on me watching the Glee Season One! Yes to that! Thanks to Jayvee for copying his files and letting me borrow his roommate's USB for me to transfer those files on my laptop. So, I think the ending was so dramatic, and as I watched the series, I though that Jessie of the Vocal Adrenalin was just using Rechelle and have been a spy for their team for them to beat the New Directions. But I was wrong, maybe it is an effect when you already watched some episodes due to excitement! And the rest of the story went on my perspective that at the end Jessie broke an egg above Rechelle's head. Well, anyway, I am just happy that I already knew the end but I was a bit disappointed because some pictures on the shooting of the last episode were already been spilled last month, I mean, I searched about Glee before and upon seeing the photos of the Glee cast with some pictures of the shooting scenes, made me disappointed because they might not look what they look on the series since it was taken last month.


I enjoyed watching Glee and tomorrow's going to be my first day in my English 30 class!!! Wow, finally. I added this subject due to the advice of my adviser for me to take another GE since all of my subjects are majors, I might wanna choose not to be stocked on a "bad" professor for the rest of the semester. She meant that I may drop a course that I really do not like, more on the professor side. LOL! :)

Mangaldan's New Slogan, a proposal

Last Saturday. Kuya Ajie Cabrera texted me and asked me if I can think of a new slogan for our town, Mangaldan. So I texted him and told him that I'm going to think for one. But I thought of many, so I just chose what's the best among the rest. LOL

I hope they will choose this. I really want to contribute something for my town. So here is the slogan I made:

Going high urbanizational development

and zooming towards citihood

Manila here I come, again

So I am still here in Pangasinan waiting for my family to come home from Dagupan buying some stuff.But in minutes we will be going to Manila with cousins Reymarc and Reychelle this time.
These two cousins of mine have been with us last year's summer when I had my summer classes.
I think they liked Trinoma and they're going shopping again later for some of their school stuff.


In two weeks time, I'm going home in pangasinan again for some major roles in DeMolay and that is being the EIC of our quaterly publication. It's really an honor, thanks Bro Marcy and Dad Melvin for trusting me on this task. I will not bring Pangasinan Chapter down.
For God. For country. For DeMolay.


I just made this entry while waiting for my loved ones. Anyway, bountiful papers await me in my dormitory.
